as we prepare to welcome students and staff back to the 2026 27 school year I want to take a few minutes to share what Safety and Security will look like across come out ISD this year keeping our students and staff safe is our number 1 priority and in kamau ISD safety isn't built around 1 program or 1 piece of technology or 1 partnership is built on layers of prevention preparedness and response working together to create a safe and supportive learning environment for every student every day that works starts with people our teachers receive youth Mental Health First Aid training because they know our students best and they are often the first to recognize when something may not be right our counselors and our student support Specialists build on that Foundation helping students develop healthy coping skills and provide support before concerns become crisis through our safe and supportive schools program every campus has multiple layers of intervention designed to identify concerns early when needed our specially trained Behavior threat assessment team brings together educ haters counselors law enforcement and mental health professionals to evaluate concerns coordinate resources and intervene before an incident ever occurs technology adds another important layer of protection every District issued divine nice is monitored 24 hours a day through securely a web and account monitoring platform that Flags warning signs such as threats of violence bullying and self-harm whether students are on campus or at home this year we're expanding those capabilities by adding social media threat monitoring to help identify potential concerns even earlier we're also continuing to strengthen our physical security systems our school resource officers will be on campus before the first build Bell Rings serving not only as Law Enforcement Officers but as trusted members of our school communities we're grateful for the strong partnership with local law enforcement including Barrett County and coal County Sheriff's Office which now has a dedicated come out ISD division focused on supporting our schools together we're confident that we will have the coverage and coordination needed throughout the school day and during the school activities behind the scenes our security Operation Center Works closely with local law enforcement the FBI Fusion Center and other Public Safety Partners to monitor information assess potential threats and coordinate responses whenever necessary this year every stat we'll also be equipped with a raptor wearable a badge connected to Raptor our district-wide visitor management and emergency notification system this works as a silent Panic alarm that allows teachers and staff to instantly notify First Responders and District safety personnel during an emergency we also integrated our Raptor emergency notification platform with our camera system allowing them to work as 1 if a threat is identified the system can immediately immediately initiate protective actions such as locking doors notifying law enforcement and providing live camera access and launch our standard response protocols across the campus within seconds as another layer of security camejo SD is implementing the AI powered weapon detection technology at selected campuses in addition we're utilizing Advanced Camera technology that can help locate individuals in the building using descriptive characteristics such as clothing color or backpacks giving First Responders valuable information when every second matters preparedness is just as important as prevention this year every campus has received a comprehensive emergency response book with standardized easy to follow checklist for a wide variety of emergency situations these guides help staff respond quickly confidently and consistently during complex incidents we're also investing in education and awareness throughout the school year students will participate in age appropriate safety assemblies and conversations designed to help them recognize concerns report issues and understand the important role they play in maintaining safe schools every student and family also has access to Anonymous alerts and come out Crimestoppers giving them the confidential way to report a concern because sometimes the most important tip comes from a student who simply needed a safe way to share it many of these improvements are the result of collaboration this summer a community of Safety and Security task force started working alongside District leaders to develop recommendations that will continue to shape the future of Safety and Security in Comal ISD that work continues and will be shared shared with our state mandated Safety and Security committee as we remain committed to continuous Improvement school safety is never finished we are always learning evaluating and looking for ways to better protect our students and staff they thank you for your continued trust and partnership thank you for entrusting us with what matters most we are stronger together and we are home all ISD

Keeping our students and staff safe is our number one priority, and in Comal ISD, safety isn't built around one program or one piece of technology or one partnership. It is built on layers of prevention, preparedness, and response working together to create a safe and supportive learning environment for every student every day.

School safety is never finished. We are always learning, evaluating, and looking for ways to better protect our students and staff. Thank you for entrusting us with what matters most. We are stronger together.
