December 2024 - The Smithson Valley Rangers football team made school history December 21 when it defeated Dallas Highland Park 32-20 to win its first state championship.
The Rangers went to the state match with a 13-2 season record. Historically, the Rangers have vied for the state championship five times including in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2023 and 2024, and the team has advanced to the state semifinals eight times.
This is also the first state title for SVHS Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Larry Hill who has been at SVHS since 1993.
