Twelve Comal ISD Athletes Chosen for San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game

December 18, 2024 - A dozen Comal ISD athletes will represent the district at this year’s 47th Annual San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Alamodome.

Those 12 students include the following athletes:

  • Preston Baker, tight end, Smithson Valley High School
  • Isaiah Champagne, wide receiver, Pieper High School
  • Diego Davila, defensive back, Smithson Valley High School
  • Kaleb Gainer, defensive back, Canyon High School
  • Caleb Gale, linebacker, Pieper High School
  • Cayden Keeth, quarterback, Pieper High School
  • Diego Sanchez, offensive line, Canyon High School
  • Landon Sawyer, offensive line, Davenport High School
  • Aryck Singletary, defensive back, Davenport High School
  • Dante Singletary, wide receiver, Davenport High School
  • Cade Spradling, athlete, Smithson Valley High School
  • Carter Williams, wide receiver, Canyon Lake High School

Eleven of the 12 Comal ISD players will be on Team White while Williams with CLHS will play on Team Blue.

In addition to the dozen athletes chosen from the district, Team White will be coached by PHS athletic coordinator and head football coach Nick Rogers who opened the campus and began the athletic program for the Warriors four years ago.

“It is an honor to be chosen to coach in the All-Star game this early in my career, especially with our program being so new,” says Rogers, who helped lead the Warriors to two district championships and state quarterfinals in 2023 and 2024.

“It is a collective effort and accomplishment, and my coaching staff is excited to work with the talented players from across the area,” says Rogers, who has been coaching for 13 years. “I plan to challenge them to have fun, win the game and remember the experience.”

The more than 115 players selected for the game represent Bexar County and seven surrounding counties. They were nominated through their coaches and selected by an all-star selection committee. While many have committed to play football for some of the top universities in the country, some are looking for an additional chance to impress college recruiters with potential scholarships during this game.

Comal ISD will be further represented at the Annual All-American Bowl and San Antonio Sports All-Stars Breakfast on Friday, Jan. 10, where athletic coordinator and head football coach of Davenport High School J.D. Zimmerhanzel will be the guest speaker.

Additionally, athletic coordinator and head football coach of Smithson Valley High School Larry Hill will coach the Navy All-American Bowl featuring the best 100 high school players in the nation. Zimmerhanzel and athletic coordinator and head football coach of Canyon High School Sean Mcauliffe will serve as assistant coaches.

The All-Star game presented by Valero follows the All-American Bowl which kicks off at noon on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Alamodome. One ticket serves as admission for both games with general admission tickets available for $15 and reserved tickets for $25. The game will be broadcast on the CW35 and San Antonio Sports Star 94.1 FM/1250 AM radio.

Congratulations!
