This year’s Comal ISD KENS 5 All-Star Athlete is Caroline Peterson, a four-year track and three-year volleyball letterman at Pieper High School who made school history by winning its first state title as a freshman in 2022.
“I am honored to be named an All-Star Athlete, and I am so grateful for the recognition,” says Peterson, who began playing volleyball in the seventh grade and began running track in the eighth grade, the year she arrived at Pieper Ranch Middle School in Comal ISD. “I know there are many deserving athletes in the district, so to be chosen means a lot to me. I am overwhelmed with gratitude towards my teammates, coaches, parents and other supporters.”
Peterson was nominated for the award by PHS Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Athletic Coordinator Courtney Patton, because of her leadership.
“She is the epitome of a scholar athlete,” says Patton. “She is a leader in the classroom and in her competition and holds herself to a high standard in all that she does. She is the type of leader who others want to follow, and we are proud of what she has accomplished.”
Peterson excels in the classroom as well, currently ranked at the top of her class of 462 students and recently named a National Merit Commended Scholar. She also is an AP Scholar with Distinction, named to the 2024 Academic All-State ELITE Team and to the Academic All-District Team for volleyball three years in row.
A few of her athletic honors include winning the 2022 4A state title in high jump and being the 5A state runner-up in 2023 and 2024. In addition, she was a 5A state qualifier in the 4x200 meter relay last spring.
In volleyball, Peterson made 1st Team All-District this fall and 2nd Team All-District two years in a row prior.
