June 22, 2022 - Three students from Smithson Valley High School were named an ‘Athlete of the Year’ for their respective sports in the San Antonio Express-News Alamo City High School Sports Awards.
Sage Benca, Brad Dildy and Kasen Wells were featured in a special section of the newspaper on Sunday, June 19, for their achievements.
All three are recent graduates of the SVHS class of 2022 with plans to continue playing their sport at the collegiate level.
Benca, who was named the Girls Wrestler of the Year by the Express-News, will continue her wrestling career at Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth.
Dildy, who was named the Boys Soccer Athlete of the Year, will play soccer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Wells, who was named the Baseball Athlete of the Year, will play baseball at Texas A&M University.
