Comal ISD Celebrates Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week

April 27, 2022 - The Comal Independent School District is celebrating Afterschool Professionals Week, April 25-29, to recognize the 125 afterschool professionals who teach, play and guide students in its School Age Child Care (SACC) program.

“Our afterschool professionals play a vital role in our SACC program,” says Sarah Permenter, Comal ISD’s executive director of community education and programs. “They help each child feel safe and nurtured while maintaining a schedule that includes homework time, games, snacks and more.”

The district’s SACC program serves more than 1,000 students in kindergarten through fifth grade Monday through Friday at each of its 18 elementary campuses.

For Nick Meisner who has been working for SACC at Specht Elementary for almost six years, being an afterschool professional has provided him the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of students and be a positive role model to them.

“I enjoy being an after school professional because I enjoy providing fun and entertaining activities for the kids after a long day of learning. I like them to look forward to ending their day with us,” says Meisner who attended SES as a student himself.

“I have gained many resources and tools in my role at SACC, and I will always carry them with me.”
